This week on monday, the CPB's board of directors held a unanimous vote to formally shut down the organization after 58 years of service to public media in the United States.

The CPB was a non-profit steward of federal funding to public broadcasting, distributing money support NPR, PBS, and over 1,500 local public radio and TV stations nationwide. It ensured access to non-commercial programming, educational content (most notably Sesame Street), emergency alerts, and services in rural and underserved areas. The justification behind the CPB's closure was made following executive order in May of 2025 from POTUS Donald Trump, effectively stripping the CPB of federal funding after allegedly pushing "biased media". Additionally in July of 2025, Congress passed a rescissions package eliminating CPB's advance appropriations. By August of 2025, the CPB had already begun laying off most of its employees and shutting down operations.

While NPR and PBS continue to operate, the future of many small television and radio stations around the country remains unclear. Without federal funding, hundreds of local providers may now have to rely on private funding to continue operating. While smaller or rural stations face significant challenges or potential closures, larger ones and national networks are adapting.

A US immigration agent has shot dead a 37-year-old woman in the city of Minneapolis, sparking protests overnight.

Federal officials said the woman, Renee Nicole Good, had tried to run over immigration agents with her car but the city mayor said the agent who shot her had acted recklessly.

Videos of the incident show ICE agents approaching a car which is in the middle of the street. As it attempts to drive off, one of them points his gun at the driver and at least two shots are heard. The FBI is investigating.

Hundreds of ICE agents have been deployed to Minneapolis, in the state of Minnesota, as part of the White House's crackdown on illegal immigration.

Multiple videos captured the incident, showing ICE agents approaching her vehicle, attempting to open the driver’s door, and the vehicle reversing and turning before shots were fired.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Governor Tim Walz condemned the shooting, with Walz issuing a warning order to prepare the Minnesota National Guard and demanding a fair investigation.
The FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are jointly investigating the shooting, with DHS Secretary Kristi Noem defending the agent’s actions as justified, calling the incident an act of “domestic terrorism”.
Protests and a makeshift memorial have emerged at the scene, with community members demanding ICE leave Minnesota and calling the shooting an act of violence against their community.
